Cowgirls Lose Two in Texarkana

Oklahoma State lost two one-run games to Arkansas in the second day of the Century Bank Classic in Texarkana on Saturday. In the first game, freshman starter Amanda Crabtree gave up an early 4-0 lead to the Lady Razorbacks in the first inning. She didn't allow another run the rest of the game. OSU got on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run by senior Kim Kaye, her third of the season. They added two more runs in the fifth when first baseman Heather Kim hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jessica Meza and a single by Kaye that scored Mariah Gearhart. However the offense failed to produce in the last two innings and the Cowgirls lost 4-3. Crabtree fell to 1-1 so far in the season although she accumulated nine strikeouts in the game. The second game of the day the Cowgirls scored first. In the second inning, Gearhart scored on a fielding error by Arkansas and Breana Casaus scored on a single by Kim. Sophomore Anna Whiddon started in the circle during the second game for Oklahoma State. She pitched five scoreless innings and gave up only one run when Arkansas Miranda Dixon hit her third home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to make the game 2-1. Sarah Odom came in for relief and walked one then struck out the next three to end the inning. She began the seventh inning with another strikeout however she gave up three singles and when Crabtree came in for Odom, she walked in the tying run. The two teams then played for an extra two innings until Arkansas' Dayna Huckabee singled in Brittany Robinson to win it 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth. The Lady Razorback are now 3-1 on the season and the Cowgirls are 2-2. The final day of the Century Bank Classic starts tomorrow at 9 a.m. when the Cowgirls play a double-header against UAB.
