Cowgirl Softball Picks Up Two Wins at Century Bank Classic

Senior Kim Kaye set the tone for the day in the first inning of game one. Kaye hit a two-run home run scoring Katelyn Bright for an early 2-1 lead. Neither team would score another run until the fourth inning when freshman Mariah Gearhart singled in Jessica Meza.
The biggest inning for the Cowgirls was the fifth when Ashley Boyd and Alysia Hamilton hit back-to-back home runs.
Centenary tried to rally in the sixth by scoring two runs, including a solo home run by second baseman Lindsey Virdell, but the Cowgirls added another couple of runs in the bottom of the inning. The top of the seventh brought a double play initiated by Gearhart and a strikeout from Sarah Odom to win the game for OSU and start off freshman pitcher Amanda Crabtree (who had seven strikeouts in her debut) 1-0.
OSU had a quieter start in the second game with one run in the first four innings. Defensively, returning sophomore pitcher Anna Whiddon started the game with three straight scoreless innings.
As the top of the sixth inning rolled around, the game was tied at three. Freshman Alysia Hamilton started off the inning with a single to left field. Then Meza hit a home run to left-center to make the score 5-3.
The Cowgirls added another six runs in the seventh including a grand slam by designated player, Emily Blackburn. Odom got the win after relieving Whiddon in the fifth.
The Cowgirls will continue tomorrow with day two of the tournament and will face
