Cowgirl Equestrian to take on New Mexico State
October 08, 2008 | Cowgirl Equestrian
The Oklahoma State equestrian team is geared up for their second show of the season as the Cowgirls (1-0) will take on New Mexico State (1-2) Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater.
Weather permitting, Saturday's show will take place in two outside arenas. Horsemanship and equitation over fences will go first, while reining and equitation on the flat will conclude the show.
The English team is coming off of its first victory of the season after defeating SMU, 8-2, last month in Stillwater. In equitation over fences, the Cowgirls will send seniors Devon Smithburg and Jaclyn Osterstock, junior Ally Blais and sophomores Erin Prutow and Hannah Beresford against New Mexico State. Against SMU, Blais captured two MVP's, one for each English discipline. Along with Blais, Osterstock, Prutow and Beresford each captured victories against SMU.
In the equestrian on the flat discipline, the Cowgirl English team is represented by a trio of seniors in Sarah Summers, Sam Collingsworth and Charlotte Collingsworth. Along with the seniors, juniors Blais, Jen McLaughlin and Jessica O'Donnell and freshman Sarah Brown will compete. All three seniors, along with Blais, captured victories against SMU.
The OSU western team will be showing for the first time this season, and the Cowgirls will be riding the momentum from a successful VENC tournament and winning the Central Championships last season. In the horsemanship discipline, seniors Jordan Pickelman and Leigha Stevenson, along with juniors Suzanne Randolph and Kilee Stewart, sophomores Margaux Tucker, Courtney Whitacre and freshman Nicholel Chirico will compete against NMSU.
In the reining discipline, the Cowgirls will show senior Jacque Roberts, juniors Leah Kuehn, Rachell Shobe and Molly Tipton and sophomore Brianna Parnell, each of whom gained valuable experience and achieved success in the arena a year ago.
