Tommy Wade Joins Cowboy Basketball Staff

“I'm very excited to have Coach Wade as a part of our staff,” said Ford. “He's someone that I've known for a long time. He's somebody who has a great reputation of being very organized, very detailed. He has a great reputation of having a great knowledge of the game of basketball. Obviously, his success speaks for itself; the national titles that he's won the last 6-8 years as a part of different staffs. We feel very fortunate to have him as a part of our staff and he will be a huge asset to us all.”
Wade, who comes to Oklahoma State after a three-year stint at Oklahoma City, had been a member of the Stars' coaching staff during their back-to-back NAIA Division I championship seasons the past two years. With Wade's assistance, OCU went 95-17 with three NAIA national title game appearances, three Sooner Athletic Conference championships and two SAC Tournament titles in three seasons. He also coached six All-Americans.
Prior to OCU, Wade was an assistant at Kentucky Wesleyan, which won the 2001 NCAA Division II championship, reached four national championship games, won three regular-season Great Lakes Valley Conference crowns, three conference tournament titles and posted four 30-win seasons in six years. Kentucky Wesleyan went 161-24 during Wade's tenure as an assistant.
Wade has been a part of three NCAA Tournament teams. At South Alabama, Wade aided in winning two Sun Belt Conference championships and two NCAA Tournament berths working as an assistant coach for Bill Musselman and Bob Weltich. Wade was also part of an Ohio Valley Conference championship team at Murray State.
“For me to be a part of Coach Ford's staff and Oklahoma State's basketball tradition is like a dream come true for me,” Wade said. “Working for Coach Ford, whom I've known for a long, long time and respect him — I think he's one of the top young coaches in the country. For me to have the opportunity to work for him and this staff, it's an exciting time for me and I'm looking forward to it.”
Wade's appointment fills Coach Ford's initial staff at Oklahoma State.
