Cowgirls Beat Baylor For Fourth-Straight Win
October 18, 2008 | Cowgirl Soccer
WACO, Texas  Oklahoma State's high-powered offense, which leads the NCAA in scoring, was on full display Friday night against Baylor as the 10th-ranked Cowgirls rolled to a 5-0 win at Betty Lou Mays Field.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 13-1-1 and moved into third place in the Big 12 Conference standings with a 4-1-1 mark in league play.
“It was a very good offensive performance,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “All year we've been very dangerous up top, and tonight was no different. Baylor is physical and tough and makes it hard for you so we just talked about being patient and spreading them out.
“We were able to do that and create some opportunities that we capitalized on.”
OSU got on the scoreboard in the 21st minute on sophomore Allyson Leggett's first-career goal. Annika Niemeier served a pass forward to Leggett, who drilled a shot from 10 yards out past BU goalkeeper Gianna Quintana to give the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead.
The Cowgirls doubled their lead just 2:06 before intermission. Leah Hope won the ball near midfield and sent a pass to Kasey Langdon, who beat the defense and went one-on-one with Quintana. Langdon would win the battle, sending a shot to the far post for her 10th goal of the season.
With the goal, Langdon became just the seventh player in OSU history to collect 10 goals in a season. It also marks only the third time two Cowgirls have reached 10 goals in the same season as Langdon and Yolanda Odenyo (11 goals) have achieved the feat. OSU also had a pair of double-digit goal scorers in 1996 and 2003.
OSU added three more goals after halftime, all coming in a span of just under six minutes.
Annika Niemeier collected the first score, sending a shot from 33 yards out that curled into the near upper post to give OSU a 3-0 advantage in the 70th minute.
Just over two minutes later, it was Jamie Markaverich recording a goal from long distance as her shot from 27 yards out found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
The Cowgirls' final goal marked another career first as freshman Elizabeth DeLozier headed in a Siera Strawser corner kick for her first collegiate goal.
Erin Stigler and Kaitlyn Gustaves combined for the shutout in goal for the Cowgirls. It marked OSU's fifth shutout of season and first since Sept. 19.
OSU returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against 12th-ranked
