Cowgirl Equestrian Faces Big 12 Competitor Kansas State
January 31, 2008 | Cowgirl Equestrian
The Oklahoma State equestrian team gets back to Big 12 action against Kansas State this weekend. The undefeated Cowgirls (6-0) will take on the Wildcats (4-2) for the first time this season. The show will be held in Stillwater at the Animal Science Arena at 10 a.m.
Last Saturday the Cowgirls defeated Miami of Ohio for their first show of the semester. The team had a great break and is ready to compete again after the new year. The Cowgirls had great success in the first portion of their season knocking off the defending national champions, University of South Carolina, and two Big 12 schools: Texas A&M and Baylor.
On the western side of the competition the Cowgirls will show 14 girls in the two disciplines: horsemanship and reining. Senior Sam Davidson, juniors Jordan Pickleman and Leigha Stevenson, sophomores Suzanne Randolph, Ashley Koch, and Kilee Stewart, and freshmen Margaux Tucker, Courtney Whiteacre, and Lauren Olson will compete for the horsemanship category. Randolph has only lost one head-to-head showing all season.
The reining discipline will be represented by junior Jacque Roberts, sophomores Molly Tipton, Rachell Shobe, and Leah Kuehn, and freshmen Courtney Whiteacre and Brianna Parnell. Shobe and Kuehn are both unbeaten on the season, while Roberts is coming off an MVP win at Baylor to end the winter portion of the season.
For the hunt seat team seniors Bailey Mahoney and Natalie Chappell, junior Misty Stutsman, sophomores Jaclyn Osterstock, Ally Blais, and Alice White, and freshman Hannah Beresford and Erin Prutow will compete the equitation over fences category. Bailey Mahoney captured the MVP last Saturday against Miami of Ohio.
The girls that will compete in the equitation on the flat include seniors Bailey Mahoney, Michelle Woolschlager, and Brittany Myers, juniors Sarah Summers, Charlotte Collingsworth, and Sam Collingsworth, and sophomores Ally Blais and Jen McLaughlin. Mahoney will represent the Cowgirls in both hunt seat events on Saturday.
