Cowboys Exorcise Demons, 82-36
January 02, 2008 | Cowboy Basketball
The Cowboy defense was stifling, holding the Demons to just 13-of-53 shots from the floor, good for 24.5 percent. It was the lowest point total and shooting percentage by a Division I opponent since Oklahoma State held Washington State to 29 points on Dec. 4, 2004. Northwestern State made just one of 16 shot attempts from beyond the three-point arc and committed 20 turnovers.
OSU played aggressively and it showed as the Pokes outrebounded NSU 46-37. That tied for the largest rebounding margin of the season, matching the nine-rebound margin against Prairie View A&M in the season opener.
The Cowboys started off slowly. OSU missed its first four field-goal attempts and it wasn't until Anderson hit a three-point four minutes into the game that OSU took a lead that it would never relinquish. The Pokes took a 41-19 lead into the lockerroom at intermission.
Senior forward Marcus Dove scored 15 points for the Cowboys, while junior guard Byron Eaton added 10. Anderson and junior Terrel Harris led the team with seven rebounds each. Sophomore Obi Muonelo had nine points, six rebounds and four assists with no turnovers.
Oklahoma State outscored NSU 32-9 in points off turnovers and 19-6 in second-chance points.
The Cowboys (7-5) return to action on Wednesday night as they host the UTSA Roadrunners at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
