2008 Stadium Re-Seat
Several fans, alumni, donors and season ticket holders have asked questions about the 2008 Stadium Re-Seat. In an effort to address questions and concerns with this initiative, I am posting FAQs below.
Summary: In the recent past, OSU Athletics faced an ADA lawsuit regarding compliance with mobility. New construction (expanding stadium by 16,000 seats) is the perfect time to address this issue as we add aisles and accommodate handicap seating (resulting in the re-design of current seats).
We feel our plan (modeled by University of Kansas which re-seats football and men's basketball annually) is the fairest process for our fans; we believe ticket holders should be able to find seats very near their current location. All POSSE members ($150.00 giving level annually) will have input in selecting their seats.
FAQs
Why reseat the stadium?
There are changes being made inside the stadium that will create more mobility seating, standardize seat width, and increase the number of aisles.
Why make the changes inside the stadium now?
Additional aisles and mobility seating were added to the new stadium design to meet laws and stay within compliance. Since seats are lost in this process, the department decided to standardize seats at the same time.
Why use Priority Points for determining seat priority and selection?
We feel this plan is the fairest for all fans. The Priority Point system provides a fair, consistent, and transparent method of providing benefits to donors in exchange for their financial investments in OSU Athletics. Priority points are awarded four separate ways.
- Current contributions - All current contributions (cash or stock) are worth 3 points per $100 donated. Planned (deferred) gifts in the new Leave a Legacy Endowment Campaign, will receive 1 point per $100.
- Consecutive years of contribution - Donors will earn 1 point for each consecutive year of POSSE donations.
- Continuous ticket purchases - Donors will earn 1 point each year (per sport) for continuous season ticket purchases.
- Connection with the University - Donors (or their spouses) who are OSU Alumni receive a one-time 10 point bonus, as do OSU faculty and staff members.
Points never diminish and will carry over to subsequent years. Donors retain all previously earned Priority Points in their giving history.
The Point system rewards contributions. Don't you care about the regular fan?
The Priority Point system does reward fans for their loyalty to athletics by giving points for purchasing season tickets.
Is everyone going to have to pick new seats?
Every season ticket holder who has seats in the main stadium. The club level will NOT be involved in this process.
How much am I going to move?
That is difficult to predict. Each account holder has a different idea of what is the “best seat”. There may be scenarios where ticket holders “improve” their seats based on personal preference (on an aisle, on the first row, on the back row, close to friends or family, near a particular yard line...)
More re-seat details are forthcoming from the Ticket Office.
We are excited about the momentum in OSU Athletics and look forward to having 60,000 fans cheer on their Cowboys in a new $284 million stadium.
There has never been a better time to be a Cowboy.
Best regards,
Craig Clemons
