OSU Honors Cowboy Gift Of A Lifetime Participants
September 07, 2007 | General
STILLWATER -- The Oklahoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is honoring the 28 participants in its Cowboy Gift Of A Lifetime program on Saturday afternoon prior to the Oklahoma State-Florida Atlantic football game.
OSU's Cowboy Gift Of A Lifetime program involves selected alums in a broad age spread who have qualified for $10 million individual life insurance policies and agreed to name Cowboy Athletics the beneficiary. Cowboy Athletics is paying the premiums. Saturday's ceremony honors the first 28 participants in the program.
The idea of the program came from OSU alum T. Boone Pickens, who is also a participant.
The 28 participants will see their names unveiled on a “Cowboy Gift Of A Lifetime” plaque. They will also receive a “Pistol Pete Maquette,” and they will be recognized during the Saturday evening football game.
On hand for the event will be interim OSU System CEO and President Marlene Strathe, OSU Vice President for Athletic Programs Mike Holder and Pickens.
“This program was an ambitious and creative undertaking by the athletic department, and they are to be commended,” President Strathe said. “We need to carefully review this and other initiatives to determine if they have application as we enhance our fundraising to provide essential support for scholarships, fellowships and scientific research.”
