No. 8 Oklahoma State Wins Cowboy Jamboree

The No. 8 Oklahoma State men's cross country team upset No. 5 Arkansas en route to winning the 71st Cowboy Jamboree at the OSU Cross Country Course Saturday. The race was extremely close between OSU, Abilene Christian and Arkansas, as the Cowboys and Abilene Christian finished with 69 points apiece, but OSU got the tiebreaker based on the performance of its players who did not score. Arkansas was right behind with 73 points.
South Plains' John Kosgei won the University Men's Individual race with a 23:42, with Abilene Christian's Nicodemus Naimadu the runner-up at 23:46. Oklahoma State's Ryan Vail took third with a 23:49 with Tulsa's Edwin Henshaw (24:10) and Arkansas' Scott MacPherson (24:12) rounding out the top five.
The host Cowboys placed two of their runners in the top 10, four in the top 20 and five in the top 25. Matt Barnes-Smith finished eighth with a 24:19, with Daniel Watts taking 14th at 24:40. Sean Fleming and Brian Ehlis rounded out OSU's scoring unit, with Fleming taking 20th with a 24:58 and Ehlis placing 24th with a 25:13. Brian Gosnell was not far behind, placing 26th with a 25:20. David Chirchir's 25:34 was good for 30th.
Missouri State won the University Women's Team race with 58 points, with Tulsa finishing second with 75 points. South Plains College took third with 157 points, with the Oklahoma State B Team finishing fourth with 186 points. Mid-America Nazarene rounded out the top five with 203 points.
South Plains' Lillian Badaru won the University Women's Team Race with a 17:15, with Oral Roberts' Faithy Kamangila the runner-up with a 17:29. Colby Community College's BettyRotich took third with a 17:38, with Wayland Baptist's Caroline Karunde (17:46) and the unattached Cindy Craine (17:55) rounding out the top five.
Oklahoma State did not run its top women's athletes Saturday, as the Cowgirls' leading unit competed at Notre Dame Friday night. Of the group that did run for OSU in Saturday's Jamboree, Maria Trejo led the way by finishing 14th with an 18:31. Brittany Mason ran an 18:58 to take 21st, with Alina Istrate clocking a 19:31 to place 39th. Irene Masai took 49th with a 19:43, with Kim Blomkvist rounding out the group of OSU scorers by placing 63rd with a 20:02. Teran Mixon (67th-20:08) and Anissa Angelosante (85th-20:36) also suited up for the Cowgirls.
