Cowgirl Softball picks up scrimmage win over Oklahoma Christian

Oklahoma Christian scored first in the top of the third when Courtney Gunderson reached after being hit by a pitch, she moved to third when Kim Kaye misplayed a hit by Christin Dobbs in right field. Gunderson then scored on a base hit by Deidre Chatigny.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the fifth when Natalie Pyle led off the inning with single and after a sacrifice bunt moved pinch runner Whitney Edmondson to second, she scored on an RBI single by Dobbs.
In the bottom of the fifth, senior Kim Kaye led off with a single, and back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Oklahoma Christian brought in pitcher Sophia Johnson who, after allowing Kaye to score on a wild pitch, retired the side and kept OCU up, 2-1.
Oklahoma State tied the game in the sixth. With one out, Katelyn Bright reached on a single, advanced on a groundout by Kaye and scored on a base hit by Heather Kim.
OCU took a 4-2 lead with a run in the seventh and another in the eighth. With runners on second and third in the top of the eighth, Gunderson laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Pyle.
The Cowgirls took the lead in the bottom of the ninth on a three-run home run by pinch hitter Ashley Boyd. The freshman from Beaumont, Texas, who has been hobbled by an ankle injury, hit a high fly ball over the leftfield fence with two runners on to give OSU a 5-4 lead. The Cowgirls added two more runs in the inning on a base hit by Megan Castle.
OSU freshman Amanda Crabtree threw the final four innings and was the pitcher of record, picking up the win. The Kingwood, Texas, native gave up just one hit while striking out eight.
Oklahoma State will host the OSU Fall Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. Games begin at 9 a.m. and admission is free. Other teams competing in the tournament are Neosho County Community College, Seminole State College and Rogers State College. The Cowgirls will play at 1, 3 and 7 p.m.
