Cowboys and Cowgirls Host Cowboy Jamboree Saturday

The Basics
The Oklahoma State women's cross country team will send teams to both the Cowboy Jamboree and the Notre Dame Invitational this weekend. The Notre Dame Invitational will be this Friday at 3 p.m. at the University's Burke Memorial Golf Course. The Cowboy Jamboree will start the University women's race at 9:10 a.m.
The Oklahoma State men's cross country team returns to action for the first time in over a month when it plays host at the Cowboy Jamboree this Saturday at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course. University men are scheduled to start at 9:40 a.m.

Running for the Cowboys this week will be Ryan Vail, David Chirchir, Matt Barnes-Smith, Daniel Watts, Brian Ehlis, Sean Fleming, Jerhoemee Murray, Tucker Weems, Clay Mayes, Ryan Birkholz, Brian Gosnell, and Peter Doroshuk.
Running for the Cowgirls this week at the Notre Dame Invitational will be Mihaela Ana Susa, Marcela Lustigova, Lena Orn, Tone Hjalmarsen, Eva Tomankova and Leah Schroeder.
Running for the Cowgirl “B” team this week at the Cowboy Jamboree will be Brandi Andrews, Clarissa Andrews, Anissa Angelosante, Fey Bashorun, Kim Blomkvist, Baiba Blumbaha, Brittany Brewer, Jenna Rae Downs, Jessica Haynes, Laura Hawkey, Kim Johnson, Irene Masai, Brittany Mason, Teran Mixon, Mateja Posavec, Tihana Sarac, Meghan Sullivan, Kalea Tam, Maria Trejo and Alina Istrate.

"The Jamboree is a special event. It's the longest continuously-running cross country meet in the nation. This year is the 71st year and it has a history of having some of the best runners in the country. With two top-10 teams like Arkansas and Oklahoma State, plus Abilene Christian and South Plains JC, we've got a lot of good depth at the top of this year's field at both the university level and at the college level.
"As far as the team competition goes, it will be tight between Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Abilene Christian. For us, it's a chance to compete against quality teams. We continue to build our program and now it's time to go out and compete and beat some of these good teams.
"Ryan Vail and David Chirchir are running really well right now. We have had the same training program for some years now and those two are way ahead of where anyone has been on this program previously. They can run with the leaders of the race and will have a good chance to win."
About The Cowboys
Led by second-year head coach Dave Smith, the Oklahoma State men's cross country team comes off a 2006 season that saw the team win the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship and place 10th at the NCAA Championships. The Cowboys are very strong challengers for the Big 12 title this season, with sophomore Daniel Watts (47th at in the 2006 NCAA Championships) and senior David Jankowski (seventh at the 2006 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships) serving as two of the squad's top returners.
About The Cowgirls
Head coach Rene Sepulveda is in his fifth year at Oklahoma State, where he has guided the Cowgirl program into the upper third of the Big 12 during the past three years. Under Sepulveda, Oklahoma State enters the 2007 season fresh off enjoying its best three-year span since joining the Big 12 as the Cowgirls finished third at the conference meet in 2004, second at the conference meet in 2005 and fourth at the conference meet in 2006.
Sophomore Tone Hjalmarsen and seniors Kim Blomkvist and Eva Tomkanova figure to lead the Cowgirl charge in 2007.
Last Time Out
The Cowgirl varsity squad finished third at the Boston College Inviational on Sept. 14, placing three runners in the top 15 of the extremely competitive event.Mihaela Susa led the way for the Cowgirls, finishing 4th in a time of 17:28.
