Cowboy Cross Country Ranks Among Nation's Best
September 14, 2007 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
The Oklahoma State men's cross country team owns the top spot in the current U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Region rankings, it was announced today. The Cowboys are also ranked eighth nationally by the USTFCCCA.
Coach Dave Smith said he is happy that Oklahoma State is getting the recognition.
“The polls whether they're good or bad don't really mean that much,” Smith said. “But it's nice to finally be getting respect from the coaches and to get some recognition for our program.”
After finishing first in the 2006 Midwest Regionals and 10th at the 2006 NCAA Championships, the Cowboys finished first in the voting for the Midwest Region followed by Iowa State, Minnesota, Kansas and Iowa.
Wisconsin finished first in the national poll followed by Colorado, Iona, Oregon, Arkansas and Stanford. OSU, Texas and North Carolina State round out the top 10.
The Cowboys will compete in their first official event of the season when Oklahoma State hosts the annual Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 29th. OSU will be running with seven returners from the 2006 season including 2006 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and all-Big 12 selection Daniel Watts.
