Gray, Vail Head to Sacramento for NCAA Championships

The meet will be held at Sacramento State's Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex. Action will begin Wednesday and run through Saturday.
Gray, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals after advancing at last weekend's Midwest Regional Championships. That event is scheduled to kick off at 10 p.m. CST.
Gray finished fifth at regionals with a time of 8:56.54 to earn a second-straight trip to the NCAA Championships. At last year's national meet, Gray missed the finals, finishing 20th with a time of 8:56.15 in the semifinals.
Vail, a sophomore from Gresham, Ore., will compete in the 5,000-meter run semifinals. That event is scheduled to start Wednesday at 10:50 p.m. CST. Vail advanced to the national meet with his sixth-place finish at regionals. He finished with a time of 14:05.81.
Vail advanced to last year's NCAA Championships, but failed to make the finals, finishing 24th with a time of 14:25.45 in the semifinals.
Both Cowboy runners qualified for regionals with their performances at the 2007 Stanford Invitational. Gray finished eighth with a time of 8:44.73 in the steeplechase while Vail finished with a time of 13:52.16 in the 5,000-meter run.
