Cowboys Compete on Final Day of Conference Meet

LINCOLN, Neb. Â– Oklahoma State's men's track team struggled to overcome tough weather conditions on the final day of the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

On a hot, windy day at Nebraska's Ed Weir Stadium, seniors Joe Gray and Michael Breshears competed in the 3,000-steeplechase for the Pokes. Gray, a native of Tacoma, Wash., finished seventh with a time of 9:24.81 while Breshears, a native of Excelsior Springs, Mo., finished eighth with a time of 9:28.21.

In the 5,000-meter run, David Jankowski led the way for the Cowboys. The junior from Idaho Falls, Idaho, finished ninth with a time of 14:46.25. Sophomore Daniel Watts finished 14^th with a time of 15:03.48 and junior Brian Gosnell finished 21^st with a time of 15:35.39.

Also in the 5,000-meter run, freshman Tucker Weems finished 23^rd, freshman Jerhoemee Murray finished 26^th and sophomore Marshall Summa finished 28^th for OSU.

Senior Ryan Ripley finished eighth in the 1,500-meter run finals. Ripley, a native of Ocala, Fla., finished with a time of 3:53.52.

“It was very hot and very windy,” said Cowboy head track coach Dick Weis. “The guys tried. The effort was there, but it was just a tough day for us. I am still very proud of the way our guys have competed this season. We have seen a lot of positive things, especially from some of our young guys.”

In the team standings, Oklahoma finished first with 110.5 points. Texas Tech, Texas, Colorado and Nebraska rounded out the top five.

Next up for OSU, five runners will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Midwest Regional Meet. The meet will be held May 25-26 at Drake University's Jim Duncan Track at Drake Stadium.
