“David ran a really good race,” Cowboy assistant coach Dave Smith said. “With all of the injuries he's gone through in the past few months, he really did a great job staying at the front of the pack. Lately, he has really trained well and showed it today.”
Sophomore Matt Barnes-Smith (31:27.79) and junior Brian Ellis (31:31.39) also ran competitive races as they finished 11th and 12th, respectively.
Coach Smith said that he was also impressed with running of freshman Clay Mayes as he finished 15th in a time of 31:38.93 in his first 10k race of his career.
“It was really an impressive performance for any freshman to come out and run at the pace Mayes did today, especially with the hot and humid conditions that he ran in.”
