Watts Becomes Fifth Cowboy to Qualify for Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. Â– Oklahoma State's men's track added its fifth regional qualifier this weekend as sophomore Daniel Watts clinched a spot with his performance at the Stanford Cardinal Invitational.

Watts finished with a personal best time of 14:00.81 in the 5,000-meter run to garner first-place honors in the university section of the race. His time in the event bests his previous personal record by 15 seconds and is the ninth-fastest time in Oklahoma State history.

Watts, who is only in his second year at Oklahoma State, finished ahead of some of the country's top college runners, including two-time Big 12 Champion, Colby Wissel of Kansas.

The Cowboy sophomore joins three seniors Â– Joe Gray, Michael Breshears, and Ryan Ripley Â– and sophomore Ryan Vail on the list of OSU runners to qualify for the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Regional Meet.

“I am extremely proud of Daniel,” said Cowboy assistant track coach Dave Smith. “He came out here and (set a new personal record) by 15 seconds and beat some very good runners. That says a lot about him. He is a very talented runner and he is only going to get better.”
