Cowgirls Make Final Road Trip at Nebraska

Oklahoma State's softball team hits the road for the final time when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Bowlin Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. The Huskers won all three meetings last season, including a nail biter in eight innings in the consolation round of the Big 12 Championship. The Cowgirls still lead the all-time series with NU, 43-38. Nebraska comes into the weekend series with a 34-16 record and is fifth in the Big 12 standings with a 7-7 record. Nebraska spent much of the first part of the season ranked nationally in the top 25, but the offense has struggled scoring runs at times and have since fallen out of the polls. Where the offense has struggled, the pitching has not as Nebraska is second in the Big 12 with a 1.37 staff ERA and opponents are hitting just .195 off of Nebraska hurlers. Meghan Mullin leads the team with a .314 batting average, while Crystal Carwile is the leading run producer with two home runs and 23 RBIs. Molly Hill and Ashley DeBuhr have split time in the circle and have combined for a 32-16 record. Hill is second in the Big 12 with a 1.04 ERA. What to Watch For
Scott is closing in on the Big 12 single season stolen base record of 48 held by Texas A&M's Sharonda McDonald, she has 46 for the season. Scott is five runs shy of tying the single season school record in runs scored with 56. Courtney Totte is eight RBIs shy of the career RBI record and her next home run will set the single season homer record.
Totte Ties Home Run Mark
Courtney Totte tied the single season home run mark of 13 with a three-run shot off the scoreboard in the fifth inning against Texas on April 22. Stephanie Nicholson had 13 home runs in the 2005 season. Totte hit two home runs in the series against the Longhorns, her first home run since clubbing a pair against Iowa State on April 1. Totte currently holds the single season record with 67 RBIs and her .414 batting average ranks second.
Totte, Scott Among Nation's Leaders
Seniors Courtney Totte and Shanel Scott are among the leaders nationally in RBIs and stolen bases, respectively. Totte ranks second in total RBIs with 67, and Scott leads the nation in stolen bases. The NCAA, however, ranks players on per game averages and both Totte and Scott rank fourth nationally in their respective categories.
Totte Records 200th hit
Courtney Totte continues to pile up career achievements as she became the second Cowgirl this season to record her 200th career hit. Totte's RBI single in the seventh inning against Baylor on April 15 was the magical hit. She has 63 hits this season, a career high with her previous high being 49 in 2005. Totte has not cheated herself either as 30 of her 63 hits have gone for extra bases.
Shanel Scott Steals 100th Base
Shanel Scott walked in the first inning against Baylor on April 15 and she quickly swiped second base, the 100th steal in her four-year career. Scott currently has 46 steals on the season and the next mark she achieves will be the single season Big 12 record at 48. She had a streak snapped of having a steal in 10 straight games at Texas A&M on April 18 and has stolen a base in 37 of OSU's 53 games.
Totte Named a Finalist for Player of the Year
The Amateur Softball Association, the governing body of softball in the United States, has announced the 25 finalists for the Collegiate Player of the Year. Senior Courtney Totte was one of seven Big 12 players to be named a finalist. The Lawton, Okla. native is hitting .414 with 13 home runs and a school record 67 RBIs. She has twice had six RBIs in a game this season, which ties the single game record at OSU.
Hoppock Fans 17
Senior Jessica Hoppock had a game to remember against Central Arkansas on Apr. 3. She needed just nine strikeouts to reach the 800 plateau, which she reached in the fourth inning. She wasn't finished, however, as she coninued to rack up K's. She had four in the sixth inning and had 15 entering the final inning needing to strikeout the side to set the single game record. She did record two of the three outs by strikeout to tie the seven inning record with 17.
