Cowgirl Rally Falls Short in Bedlam
April 26, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cowgirls had the first two hitters reach in the seventh inning and appeared to have loaded the bases when Sam Heinlein was hit by the pitch. The umpire, however, ruled that Heinlein leaned into a pitch that was in the strike zone and was called out for the first out of the inning. The next batter popped out for the second out, but nine-hole hitter Sadie Krywicki came through with an RBI single to cut the Sooner lead in half.
Krywicki's hit turned the lineup over to leadoff hitter Shanel Scott with the tying run on second base. Scott hit a little flare behind the shortstop, but Cruce collided with Savannah Long before she had a chance to catch and was called out for the final out of the game.
The Sooners jumped out to an early lead when three of the first four hitters singled to start the game. Samantha Ricketts plated the game's first run with an RBI single to score Norrelle Dickson.
OU added an insurance run in the sixth inning on a home run by Jamie Fox that cleared the centerfield wall and made the score 2-0.
Both runs came off OSU starter Jessica Hoppock who pitched well allowing only two runs on eight hits but suffered the loss to fall to 13-15 on the season. Lauren Eckermann received the win for OU and improved her record to a gaudy 30-2.
The Cowgirls never mounted any serious scoring threats against Eckermann before the seventh. Katelyn Bright was the first runner to reach third base for OSU with two outs in the sixth inning. Scott provided the offense going 2-for-4 for the Cowgirls.
OSU will make its final road trip of the season when it travels to
