Western Team Advances at Varsity Nationals

In pursuit of its fourth national title in five years, Oklahoma State's western half of the equestrian team defeated Stephen F. Austin, 7-1, in the first round of the Varsity Equestrian National Championships in Waco, Texas.
The Cowgirls, seeded sixth, swept horsemanship to gain all four points. Junior Samantha Davidson scored a 144.5 to lead the Cowgirls. Senior Brandi Thomas, sophomore Jordan Pickelman and freshman Ashley Koch also chipped in with wins.
In reining, OSU took three out of four match ups. Senior Rachel Currat posted the highest Cowgirl run with a 142 but was beaten out in her individual match up. Senior Katie Bohr, sophomore Jacqueline Roberts and freshman Rachell Shobe scored the Cowgirls' three wins.
With the win, OSU advances to face third-seeded Kansas State. The two teams tied in two out of three regular season match ups. The Hunt seat team is seeded second and received a first-round bye.
