Oklahoma State Travels to Waco to Face Front Running Bears

Oklahoma State's softball team is traveling to Waco, Texas to face the Big 12 leading Baylor Bears on Saturday and Sunday at 2 and 1 p.m., respectively. The Cowgirls are trying to snap a three-game losing streak after getting swept at home by Missouri last weekend. OSU is currently 24-22 on the season and 2-5 in Big 12 play. OSU is still trying to find some consistency as it has yet to lose more than three straight games, but its longest winning streak is four. The Cowgirls will try to avoid their first four-game losing streak by beating a ranked opponent for just the second time this season. Baylor comes in unbeaten in Big 12 play at 7-0 after defeating Texas, 6-0, on Wednesday. BU is 37-9 on the season and has won 11 straight, including Big 12 road wins at Texas A&M and Texas. The Bears are led offensively by national player of the year finalist Ashley Monceaux who is hitting .405 on the season with 12 home runs and 47 RBIs. Lisa Ferguson leads the pitching staff with a 17-4 record and a 1.80 ERA. Both games will be broadcast live with Bill Van Ness providing the commentary. Saturday's game is on KGFY 105.5 FM, while Sunday's game is on KSPI 780 AM. What to Watch For
Shanel Scott needs just two walks to tie the single season record at OSU. Scott is closing in on the single season Big 12 stolen base record of 48, she has 41 for the season. Scott is just two steals shy of the century mark. Courtney Totte is three hits shy of 200 for her career. She needs two home runs and seven doubles to tie the single season marks, and she needs 15 RBIs to tie the career RBI record. She needs 11 RBI to tie the single season Big 12 record.
Totte Named a Finalist for Player of the Year
The Amateur Softball Association, the governing body of softball in the United States, has announced the 25 finalists for the Collegiate Player of the Year. Senior Courtney Totte was one of seven Big 12 players to be named a finalist. The Lawton, Okla. native is hitting .421 with 11 home runs and a school record 60 RBIs. She has twice had six RBIs in a game this season, which ties a single game record at OSU.
Hoppock Fans 17
Senior Jessica Hoppock had a game to remember against Central Arkansas on Apr. 3. She needed just nine strikeouts to reach the 800 plateau, which she reached in the fourth inning. She wasn't finished, however, as she coninued to rack up K's. She had four in the sixth inning and had 15 entering the final inning needing to strikeout the side to set the single game record. She did record two of the three outs by strikeout to tie the seven inning record with 17.
Totte Earns Player of the Week Honors
Courtney Totte had a stellar week (3/26- 4/1) hitting .750 with two home runs and eight RBIs. She began the week going 1-for-1 against Wichita State with an RBI double, which set the single season RBI record at OSU. Then in the first game of a double header against Iowa State she went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and a grand slam to tie the single game record with six RBIs. She closed out the week going 1-for-3 with two RBIs against the Cyclones. She was rewarded for her efforts as The Amateur Softball Association named her the National Player of the Week. She is the first Oklahoma State player to receive that distinction. She was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Cowgirls Pound Cyclones
OSU pounded Iowa State in a Big 12 double header on April 1 as the Cowgirls outscored the Cyclones 24-1 in the two games and out hit them 23-6. Every player in the lineup except one had at least two hits, while every player scored at least once. Courtney Totte went 5-for-7 with two home runs and eight RBIs, while Shanel Scott walked five times to set the career walks record at OSU.
Totte Sets RBI Mark
Senior Courtney Totte set the single season RBI mark with an RBI double in the fifth inning against Wichita State on Mar. 27. It was her 52nd RBI of the season breaking the mark set by former Cowgirl All-American Jamie Foutch who had 51 in 1996 and 1997. Totte now has her sights set on Foutch's career record of 163. Totte has 148 career ribbies with 11 games left on the schedule.
Scott Walking into the Record Books
Senior Shanel Scott has already ran her way into the record books this season as the single season record holder in stolen bases and the career record holder in runs scored. She passed Stephanie Nicholson for the career lead in base on balls and has 86 walks for her career. Scott currently has 34 walks for the season, just two shy of the single season record.
