Seniors Joseph Gray and Michael Breshears, along with junior Ryan Vail, set personal records in their events on their way to becoming NCAA Regional qualifiers.
Gray, a native of
“I felt good going into today's race,” said Gray. “Since my freshman year, I have felt confident that I can run the (NCAA Regional) qualifying time and I am glad that I could go out and do it again today.”
Gray, who has been a model of consistency ever since he stepped on campus in
“I go into every race with the mindset that I am going to run hard,“ said Gray. “I came to OSU to run and I consider that my business. I always go into a race ready to roll and I have always made the effort to be consistent in my running.”
Vail, a junior from
“I didn't know exactly what I was going to be able to do going into the race,” said Vail. “I knew that I wanted to go out and get (the personal record) and be able to come home strong and I was able to do that. It definitely means a lot to qualify for regionals this early and not have to worry about that later on in the season.”
Cowboys Ryan Ripley and Peter Doroshuk both competed in the 1,500-meter run. Ripley, a senior, finished third with a final time of 3:48.72. Doroshuk, a sophomore, finished 23rd with a time of 3:52.74, five seconds faster than his previous personal record in the event.
In Friday's action, Cowboy runners Brian Ehlis and Alejandro Ruiz competed in the 5,000-meter run. Ehlis, a junior from
“This was a great kickoff to our season,” said Cowboy assistant track coach Dave Smith. “We had three Regional qualifiers and four (personal records). It was a great weekend for us and I think that seeing those three guys qualify will get some of our other runners excited about where they could be in the next few weeks.”
