Oklahoma State's 52nd-ranked women's tennis team picked up its fourth Big 12 win of the season when they defeated Kansas State, 6-1, in Stillwater at the DeBois Tennis Center Sunday.
OSU (12-5, 4-2) swept doubles action to grab the doubles point for the fourth time in Big 12 play. With a win at No. 3 doubles, Jennifer Poskitt and Marta Tsivka have now won five straight.
The Cowgirls extended the lead, 2-0, with an outstanding performance by Nataliya Shatkovskaya at No. 3 singles. The freshman downed Tamar Kvaratskhelia, 6-1, 6-1 and is now 12-4 in her first spring of college tennis.
Junior Yawna Allen was next to finish as she defeated Fernanda Da Valle, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Allen is now 4-2 at the position in Big 12 play.
O-State clinched the match with a win Jennifer Poskitt at No. 6 singles. The senior bounced Natasha Vieira, 6-1, 6-3, and is in the hunt for the Big 12 Championship at the position with a 5-1 record.
Poskitt's doubles partner, Tsivka, is also in the hunt for a Big 12 individual title as she defeated Olga Klimova, 6-4, 6-4, to mover her Big 12 mark to 5-1. Tsivka is the reining Big 12 Champion at the position.
Simmons scored the final points for OSU in dramatic fashion. After winning the first set, 6-4, against Katka Kudlackova at No. 4 singles, she dropped the second set, 6-3. The senior found herself down, 7-3, in the third-set tiebreaker but rallied to win seven-straight points to win the match.
Kansas State won at No. 1 singles to hold off the Cowgirl shut out.
The Cowgirls will get some rest this week before traveling to Ames, Iowa to face the Cyclones Saturday at noon.
