Cowgirls Defeat Abilene Christian, 4-0
April 01, 2007 | Cowgirl Tennis
Oklahoma State's women's tennis team picked up its fifth shut out of the 2007 season with a, 4-0, win over Abilene Christian in Tulsa Friday.
Rainy weather forced the match indoors at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. With the win, OSU moves to 11-5 this season.
The Cowgirls started strong by sweeping the doubles point to gain the early, 1-0, advantage. All three matches against the Wildcats, a good doubles squad, were highly competitive. With an, 8-6, win at No. 1 doubles, Yawna Allen and Nataliya Shatkovskaya earned their team leading 10th dual win of the season.
OSU got wins from Iryna Tkachenko, Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Lauren Simmons at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, to complete the shutout.
Tkachenko got an impressive, 6-1, 6-1, victory over a highly-ranked Wildcat. She also joined Shatkovskaya and Marta Tsivka as double-digit win Cowgirls.
Shatkovskaya bounced back from a disappointing loss against Wichita State Wednesday to pick up, 6-0, 6-1, win against Abilene Christian.
Simmons became the fourth Cowgirl to reach double-digit wins this spring with a, 6-3, 6-1, win at No. 4 singles.
The 52nd-ranked Cowgirls will return to Big 12 play when they host Kansas State at 10 a.m. at the DeBois Tennis Center in Stillwater Sunday.
