Oklahoma State Travels to Florida for Adidas Invitational

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls (12-12) will attend the Adidas Invitational this weekend in Tampa, Fla. Oklahoma State will open the tournament on Thursday with Jacksonville at 10 a.m. The Dolphins are 4-17 on the season. The Cowgirls will immediately follow that game with a game against North Carolina. The Tarheels are coming in with a 15-8 record and winners of their last eight games. On Friday, the Cowgirls return to the field against Wagner. It is the season opener for the Seahawks, who were picked third in the Northeastern Conference. OSU will meet tournament host South Florida in its second game of the day. The Bulls began the season ranked 22nd nationally, but have since fallen out of the polls, however, USF is still receiving votes. Oklahoma State closes pool play with Western Michigan at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Broncos are just 3-2 on the season. WMU opened the season at the Kajikawa Classic in Temp, Ariz., and it defeated Cal State Fullerton, but the Broncos have not played a game since Feb. 11. OSU will then play a pair of games against teams from another pool on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
What to Watch For
Courtney Totte needs just six runs to become the third player in school history with 100 runs scored. She will join Foutch as the only other player with 100 RBIs and 100 runs scored. Shanel Scott has 20 stolen bases on the season through 24 games. Her career high is 23, and she is approaching the single season record of 28 held by Cyndi Smith.
Scott Leading Thief in Big 12
Shanel Scott has reached 20 steals for the season and is approaching her own career high of 23. Cyndi Smith holds the single season record with 28 steals set during the 1996 season. Scott set the career steal mark last season and is adding to it with her 77 career thefts. Scott is currently leads the Big 12 with her 20 steals and is on pace to set the single season record held by Texas A&M's Sharonda McDonald with 48.
Cowgirls Complete Rugged Schedule
First year head coach Rich Wieligman did a double take when he first looked at the 2007 schedule after taking the job. He had just finished watching seven future opponents compete in the 2006 Women's College World Series. The Cowgirls opened the season at the CenturyTel Classic and suffered a pair of losses to Alabama. They then traveled to Las Vegas where they defeated Pac-10 power UCLA. At the Palm Springs Classic, OSU lost to Tennessee and Arizona State, who were at the time ranked one and two in the country, respectively. The Cowgirls just completed the tough part of the non-conference schedule after losing to Oregon State and Northwestern. The only WCWS teams that OSU has not played are Texas and Arizona, and the Cowgirls will see the Longhorns once conference play begins. OSU is 1-6 against 2006 WCWS teams, and 7-7 against teams that played in an NCAA regional last season. The Cowgirls have played 14 of their 23 games against teams who have made an NCAA Regional and are currently 11-12 on the season.
Scott Runs Into the Record Books
With her first inning run against Michigan State on Feb. 25, Shanel Scott set the school's all-time record in runs scored. Scott scored again in the second inning and now holds the record with 124 runs scored. She has obliterated the career stolen bases mark, which she set in the fifth game of the season last year. Scott currently has 70 career steals.
Totte Reaches the Century Mark
Courtney Totte reached the century mark in RBIs when she hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning against Long Island on Feb. 23. Totte went, 2-for-4 in the game with four RBIs. She is the second player to top 100 RBIs for a career, joining Jamie Foutch who holds the record with 163.
Totte is Perfect Against No. 16 California
Courtney Totte went 4-for-4 against No. 16 California on Feb. 23. She gave the Cowgirls the early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. She followed it up with a pair of singles and a two-out double in the seventh inning. Totte had four of OSU's eight hits in the contest.
Scott Records Hit No. 200
Senior Shanel Scott laid down a bunt and beat the throw in the second inning of the home opener against North Texas on Feb. 20, for her 200th career hit in a Cowgirl uniform. She became only the second player with 200 hits joining former Cowgirl Jaimie Foutch who holds the record with 278.
Cowgirls Put it Together
Oklahoma State showed what it was capable of against UCLA on Feb. 17. The Cowgirls did not commit an error on defense and allowed just one double, while OSU hit four doubles and two home runs. The result was an 8-1 victory over the ninth-ranked Bruins. The eight runs scored were a season high and seven hits were the third highest total this season. It also marked the first time this season that OSU failed to commit an error.
