Oklahoma State Resumes Big 12 Play Against Iowa State
March 30, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State resumes Big 12 play this weekend when it travels to Ames, Iowa for a two game set against Iowa State beginning Saturday at 2 p.m. OSU took two out three games against the Cyclones last year with the two teams splitting in the regular season before OSU won an opening round game in the Big 12 Championship. The Cyclones enter the weekend series with a 19-24 record after sweeping a pair of games from instate rival Northern Iowa this week. ISU dropped its opening Big 12 series to preseason favorite Texas A&M. ISU is led offensively by Alex Johnson with a .343 average. Johnson is the only Cyclone hitting above .300. The Cyclones have shared the pitching duties with Charissa Carlin and Alyssa Ransom, who have both thrown over 90 innings. OSU is 21-19 on the season after defeating Wichita State on Tuesday. The Cowgirls had their annual Border War rained out during the week. They were just the second and third games OSU had rained out this season. What to Watch For
Shanel Scott needs five walks to set the career base on balls record at OSU. Scott is closing in on the single season Big 12 stolen base record of 47, Scott has 35 steals for the season. Courtney Totte needs four home runs and seven doubles to tie the single season marks, and she needs 23 RBIs to tie the career RBI record.
Totte Sets RBI Mark
Senior Courtney Totte set the single season RBI mark with an RBI double in the fifth inning against Wichita State on Mar. 27. It was her 52nd RBI of the season breaking the mark set by former Cowgirl All-American Jamie Foutch who had 51 in 1996 and 1997. Totte now has her sights set on Foutch's career record of 163. Totte has 140 career ribbies with 18 games left on the schedule.
Scott Walking into the Record Books
Senior Shanel Scott has already ran her way into the record books this season as the single season record holder in stolen bases and the career record holder in runs scored. She is on pace to set the single season record in walks and she is just four walks shy of tying the career record. Stephanie Nicholson currently holds both records with 36 walks in 2004 and she had 82 for her career. Scott currently has 26 walks this season and 78 for her career
Bottom Produces
Oklahoma State has not gotten much production from the bottom part of the order this season. Going into the Tulsa game, the first five hitters in the lineup were hitting a combined .332 with 89 RBIs, while the bottom four hitters were hitting .173 with 28 RBIs. Against Tulsa, the bottom of the order went 7-for-12 and drove in seven of the 13 runs scored in the game.
Totte Having Dream Season
Courtney Totte is having one of the best individual seasons in school history. Her current .422 average would rank second all-time for a single season. She ranks fourth with 15 doubles, fifth with nine home runs, ninth in total bases with 93, her .802 slugging percentage would be a new school record and she just set the single season mark in RBIs. Totte still has 18 games left to move up the charts even more.
