March 26, 2007 | Cowgirl Tennis
Oklahoma State's women's tennis squad picked up its 10th win of the season Sunday by defeating East Central (Okla.), 7-0, at the DeBois Tennis Center in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls (10-4) swept doubles play to take an early, 1-0, advantage. The most impressive performance came at No. 3 doubles where Jennifer Poskitt and Marta Tsivka, playing together for the first time in five matches, shut out Kat Christensen and Erin Miller, 8-0.
OSU quickly pushed its lead to 3-0 with a couple of quick matches at No. 5 and 6 singles. Senior Lauren Simmons was the first Cowgirl off the court as she picked up her 65th-career victory by defeating Christensen, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 position.
Poskitt, also a senior, was not far behind as she downed Miller, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles. The New Zealand native has now won five of her last six matches.
The match was clinched by freshman Nataliya Shatkovskaya after she defeated Julia Arguello, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles to become the first Cowgirl this season to win 10 dual matches.
Yawna Allen was the next off the court as she got a straight-sets win over Karlien Lotter, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Allen will look forward to some much needed rest, as this was her first match in the last four outings that did not go to a third set.
At No. 1 singles, Iryna Tkachenko found herself down, 4-1, in the second set by fought back to take the match against Dasha Segenchuk, ranked 13th in Division II, 6-2, 7-5.
The only match to go past two sets was at No. 4 singles where Marta Tsivka picked up her ninth win of the spring by defeating Ana Fernandez, 6-3, 3-6, 8-6.
O-State has already pick up four shut outs this season, the most by an OSU squad since the 2003 Big 12 Championship team that had five.
The Cowgirls will get some much needed rest before traveling to Wichita, Kan., Wednesday to take on No. 21 Wichita State.
