Cowgirls Stymied by Jayhawks, 2-0
March 25, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State (20-19, 0-2 Big 12) left eight runners on base and Kansas (23-9-1, 2-0 Big 12) got a two-run homer from Elle Pottorf in the first inning, which proved to be enough as the Jayhawks shut out the Cowgirls, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium.
With two outs in the top of the first inning, Stevie Crisosto reached on an infield single and Pottorf followed with her sixth home run of the season off of Jessica Hoppock to stake KU to an early 2-0 lead.
Hoppock (10-10) settled down after the first inning and only allowed two baserunners, as she retired the final 13 hitters she faced. She allowed four hits and struck out seven, but suffered the loss.
The Cowgirl offense, however, could not solve KU starter Valerie George (7-2). George allowed three hits over 6.2 innings and struck out eight before giving way to Kassie Humphreys to record the final out in the seventh.
Humphreys gave up a double to Shanel Scott, the first batter she faced. She then got Katelyn Bright to line out to the third baseman to end the game. OSU's RBI leader, Courtney Totte, was left waiting in the on deck circle.
Scott had three of the four Cowgirl hits on the day and she stole two bases, but OSU could not find any clutch hits to drive her in.
