Courtney Totte led the way for OSU (16-16) at the plate, as she went 3-for-3 with three doubles to extend her hitting streak to seven games, while also driving in a season-high five RBIs.
Freshmen Anna Whiddon was nearly untouchable in the circle, hurling a complete game for the Cowgirls, while only surrendering one earned run on just four hits. Whiddon finished the game with six strikeouts and improved her record this season to 5-3.
The Cowgirls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Totte drove in Shannel Scott. The following inning, the Cowgirls opened up the scoring by putting up four runs to extend their lead to 5-0, where Totte scored her 100th-career run off a Kim Kaye RBI single.
USD (12-11) then cut the lead to 5-2 in fifth, as Nichole Velenzuela platted in the first Torero run with an RBI doubled to left center. Also in the inning, the Toreros got their final run off a sacrifice fly by Carey Casciola, scoring Kaslin Tucker from third.
The Cowgirls then got three insurance runs in the bottom half of the fifth, where Totte hit her third double of the night, scoring Scott and Katelyn Bright.
The two teams will square off tomorrow in a double-header with the first game set to start at 1 p.m.
