Cowgirls Outlast South Florida in 10
March 10, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
Courtney Totte plated the go-ahead run in the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly that plated Shanel Scott. Scott started the inning on second base as the international tiebreaker was used beginning in the eighth inning. The Bulls had the tying run at third base with one out, but Whiddon got two fly outs to end the game.
It was the first extra inning game for OSU which improved to 15-13 on the season, while USF dropped to 17-9 on the year.
Anna Whiddon went the distance in the circle for OSU as she allowed 11 hits, but just two runs came across the plate. She improved her record to 4-2 on the season with the win.
The Bulls took the lead in the third inning on an RBI double by Olnick. It appeared to be enough as the Cowgirls were down to their final out before Heinlein tied the game with her solo blast.
Both teams scored a run in the eighth inning with the automatic runner on second base. The Cowgirls plated the winning run in the 10th inning, while Whiddon held USF scoreless over the final two frames, despite starting both innings with a runner on second base.
Totte had two more RBIs to run her season total to 31. Her career high is 43, which she set as a sophomore in 2005. Jamie Foutch holds the school record with 51 RBIs in 1996 and 1997.
Oklahoma State concludes pool play with Western Michigan tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. The Cowgirls then play a yet to be determined opponent at either 3 p.m. or 5 p.m.
