Softball Sweeps Double header from Missouri State

Oklahoma State's softball team swept a doubleheader from Missouri State as OSU used a solo home run from Kim Kaye to defeat the Bears, 1-0, and it hit three solo home runs in the nightcap to win, 4-2, on Wednessday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

OSU improved to 10-8 on the season with the two victories, while MSU fell to 7-10 on the year.

Jessica Hoppock threw a complete game one-hitter as she struck out 12 hitters and hurled her first shutout of the season. Hoppock got all the run support she needed when Kaye hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

The Cowgirls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game thanks to three solo home runs. Totte hit her fourth home run of the season in the first inning, while Krystle Sanchez and Emily Blackburn went back-to-back in the second inning.

Missouri State answered with a pair of runs in the second inning. It was all they could get as Anna Whiddon relieved Chelsey Barclay in the fourth inning and allowed just two hits over the final four innings to earn her first career victory.

Sanchez added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI double that plated Kaye.

OSU travels to Fullerton, Calif. for the Worth Invitational where they will open with Cal Poly on Friday morning at 11 a.m. (CST). The Cowgirls play two more ranked teams when they face No. 11 Oregon State on Saturday and close out the weekend against eighth-ranked Northwestern.
