Cowgirls Split Pair to Open 2007 Season
February 09, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
Senior Shanel Scott reached base on all six plate appearances and she scored three times. Scott went 4-for-4 on the day.
Jessica Hoppock threw a complete game three-hitter against UTSA in the opener. She allowed three runs that scored courtesy of two Cowgirl errors and struck out eight. Scott went 3-for-3 and scored three runs to pace the offense.
Freshmen Emily Blackburn and Sadie Krywicki both had solid debuts for OSU. Blackburn tripled for her first career hit and Krywicki drove in a much needed insurance run that put the Cowgirls up two runs heading to the seventh inning.
The Cowgirls did not fare as well against Alabama as the Crimson Tide used a six-run second inning to break the game open.
Scott had OSU's only hit in the third inning with a two-out single and Katelyn Bright followed with a walk. It was the best scoring opportunity the Cowgirls had, but Lauren Kitchens flied out to end the threat.
The Crimson Tide put the game out of reach with four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
The Cowgirls return to action against Tournament host Texas State tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
