Cowgirl Equestrian Falls to Auburn, 13-7

The Cowgirls, after a long struggle, were defeated by the Auburn Tigers, 13-7, on Sunday. Currently the Cowgirls hold a 6-4 record on the season.
Giving the Cowgirls one point in equitation over fences was senior Paige Hortman. Hortman received an 81 beating out Auburn's Jessica Braswell. Hortman scored 11 points above Braswell's score. Junior Bailey Mahoney out rode Auburn's Katie Breedlove by four points in equitation on the flat. Mahoney's score of a 69 was the highest for the Cowgirls on the flat. Earning the final point for the Cowgirls in equitation on the flat was sophomore Samantha Collingsworth. Collingsworth's score of a 66 beat out Auburn's Chelsea Anheuser by seven points.
On the western side, the Cowgirls received four points. In horsemanship, the Cowgirls received points from junior Samantha Davidson, sophomore Jordan Pickelman and freshman Ashley Koch. Davidson received a score of a 73.5 on her pattern, 3.5 points higher than her competitor, Ashley Griffith. Pickelman's score of a 72 beat Auburn's Kimberly Tidwell by three points. Finally, Koch received a score of 67.5, inching out a win over Auburn's Jessica Jones by .5.
The Cowgirls resume their spring semester with a home matches against the University of Georgia and Texas A&M University on March 3-4. Georgia currently is undefeated this year and Texas A&M sits at 4-1,falling to the Cowgirls in the fall.
