Gamecocks Down Cowgirls, 12-8

Even though the Cowgirls recorded a loss on Saturday against the Gamecocks, they rode smart, tough and never backed down. There was a bright side as the Cowgirls did however rumble the Gamecocks in the western side bringing home both MVP awards.
Earning yet another point for the Cowgirls and this competition's MVP award was sophomore horsemanship rider Jordan Pickelman. Pickelman's pattern scored a 72.5, four points higher than USC's rider. Her high score of the day was only .5 higher than teammate Brandi Thomas. Thomas's score also earned the Cowgirls a point. Receiving the final point in horsemanship was freshman Ashley Koch. Koch earned the same score as Pickelman, a 72.5, beating out USC's rider by .5.
The Western team shined in the reining, capturing all but one point and gaining yet another MVP award. Senior Katie Bohr earned the MVP award for her challenging ride. Her score of a 66.5 beat out USC's rider by three points. Earning the remaining three points included sophomore Jacque Roberts, freshmen Rachell Shobe and Molly Tipton. The western team beat out USC's western team, 7 to 3.
The English side of the competition fought hard to beat out the Gamecocks. The point spreads between the two were very close in the equitation on the flat. Unfortunately the Gamecocks won all five of the matches. Scoring for the Cowgirls in equitation over fences was freshman Ally Blais. Blais's score of a 75 beat out USC's rider by two.
