Cowgirls Fall to No. 16 California, 6-3

California used a five-run fourth inning to rally past Oklahoma State, 6-3, as Alex Sutton hit two home runs for the Golden Bears in the Palm Springs Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.

OSU (7-6) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. Courtney Totte hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot, to get the scoring started for the Cowgirls. Emily Blackburn contributed an RBI single in the frame.

Totte went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs. She is 6-for-8 with six RBIs in the first two games of the classic.

Cal (9-4) loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning, but Taylor Kelly lined out to Lauren Kitchens at second base who doubled Katie Vickers off of third. Chelsey Barclay then struck out Carly Winger to end the threat.

California finally broke through in the fourth inning as Sutton led off with a home run. Jessica Hoppock relieved Barclay and got touched for three runs as UC plated five in the inning.

The Cowgirls never mounted a serious threat after the first. The Cowgirls had runners on second and third with one out in the third, but a pair of ground balls ended the threat. That was the last time a Cowgirl touched third base.

Marissa Drewrey threw the final six innings for the Golden Bears to earn the win in relief, while Hoppock took the loss and fell to 7-3 on the season.

Sutton added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with her second home run of the game, a solo shot off of OSU reliever Anna Whiddon.

The Cowgirls have their hands full tomorrow as they play top-ranked Tennessee at 5:30 p.m. (CST), followed by a game with second-ranked Arizona State at 10:30 p.m. (CST).
