Cowgirls Snap Skid, Defeat Utah, 2-1

Jessica Hoppock out dueled Meghan Dyer as Oklahoma State (4-4) snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Utah (2-3-1), 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas.

Hoppock allowed one run on just three hits and five strikeouts to earn the win and run her record to 4-2 on the season. Utah's Dyer allowed two runs on three hits and struck out nine in a losing effort.

Krystle Sanchez provided the winning hit in the sixth inning as OSU improved to 3-0 in one-run games.

Oklahoma State struck first in the top of the fifth when Megan Castle led off with a double and scored on a single by Shianne Cruce.

Utah tied the score in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Kelly Matthews. The Utes were threatening for more with the bases full and no outs, but OSU starter Jessica Hoppock struck out the next three hitters to get out of the jam.

The Cowgirls retook the lead in sixth inning on an RBI single by Sanchez. Pinch runner Jenna Harmison swiped second base and Sanchez came through with a clutch two-out single.

Hoppock allowed just two base runners after working her way out of trouble in the fourth and fifth innings.

Oklahoma State faces ninth-ranked UCLA in the nightcap at 8 p.m. The Cowgirls last defeated the Bruins in 2005 at the Palm Springs Classic.
