Cowgirls Lose to Illinois, 10-2

Illinois used two big innings to defeat Oklahoma State, 10-2, in the second game of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.

Illinois improved to 5-2 on the season, while OSU dropped to 3-4.

Illinois took advantage of a Cowgirl error in the third inning, which opened the door for five unearned runs. The Illini scored five runs on just one hit in the inning as Lana Armstrong cleared the bases with a three-run triple.

Krystle Sanchez got a pair of runs back with a two-run homerun in the fourth inning. OSU could not hold Illinois down; however, as it scored five more runs to go up 10-2. Illinois hit two home runs in the inning, including a three-run shot by Armstrong who finished the game 3-for-3 with six RBIs.

The Cowgirls were led offensively by Shanel Scott who went 2-for-3. Scott is one hit shy of becoming just the second player in school history with 200 hits. Sanchez went 1-for-3 with her team leading second home run of the season, and she also leads the team with five RBIs.

Chelsey Barclay took the loss on the mound as she surrendered 10 runs, five earned, on seven hits. Barclay issued six walks in the contest, four of which came around to score.

OSU continues play at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic with a game against Utah at 2 p.m. (CST), followed by a game against ninth-ranked UCLA at 8 p.m. (CST).
