Cowgirl Tennis Set to Take On Sycamores
February 14, 2007 | Cowgirl Tennis
Oklahoma State's women's tennis team will look to push its record to 3-0 when they face the Indiana State (5-1) Sycamores Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
“We opened the season with two touch matches and every match you play in the early portion of your schedule is tough,” head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. “We have not had good weather lately so our practice time has been limited. Hopefully, we can pull together and win what we expect to be a tough match.”
The Cowgirls opened the season with wins against No. 64 Rice and Arkansas-Little Rock. Lubicz-Majewski, in his 18th season at the helm of the program, has gotten outstanding play from the top of his lineup so far this season. Iryna Tkachenko, Yawna Allen and Nataliya Shatkovskaya are all unbeaten this season while playing in the top three positions.
In the latest rankings, released by the ITA on Tuesday, OSU climbed one spot to No. 41, while ISU held steady at No. 75. The Sycamores have defeated two ranked teams this season, No. 61 Iowa and No. 71 Western Michigan. Their lone loss came against No. 46 Denver, 6-1.
The Sycamores are coached by Malik Tabet, who is in his second season leading the program. In his inaugural season guiding ISU, he was named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
ISU is led individually by Jennifer Migan (5-1), who has played all but one of her matches this season at No. 1 singles. Migan teams with Joanne Schickering to form the Sycamores' top doubles team. The pair is undefeated this season.
This will be the first matchup between the two school in women's tennis.
