Cowboy Track Team Completes Busy Weekend

SEATTLE, Wash. - Cowboy freshman Sean Fleming gave another strong performance to lead Oklahoma State's men's track team at the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday. The meet capped a busy weekend in which the Pokes also competed at the University of Arkansas' Tyson Foods Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Fleming finished with a time of 8:14.53 in the 3,000-meter run to finish eighth in his heat. That time bettered his previous best time in the event by 24 seconds. Redshirt freshman Daniel Watts and sophomore Alejandro Ruiz also set personal records in the 3,000-meter run. Watts finished 15th in his heat with a time of 8:09.69 while Ruiz finished with a time of 8:20.54, placing 12th in his heat.
“I was very impressed with the way the Fleming, Watts and Ruiz ran today,” said Cowboy assistant coach Dave Smith. “We had a tough day, overall, but those three guys really came out and ran solid.”
Also in the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Matt Barnes-Smith and Brian Ehlis finished 23rd and 24th, respectively, in their heats. Barnes-Smith finished with a time of 8:34.57 and Ehlis finished with a time of 8:33.51. Redshirt freshman Peter Doroshuk finished with a time of 8:31.06 to finish 13th in his heat.
In the one-mile run, senior Ryan Ripley finished 10th in his heat with a time of 4:11.02. Freshman Jerhoemee Murray finished 14th with a time of 4:23.82.
In the 5,000-meter run, senior Joseph Gray finished18th in his heat with a time of 14:42.29. Fellow senior Michael Breshears finished with a time of 14:50.52 as he also finished 18th in his heat.
At the Tyson Foods Invitational in Fayetteville, Cowboy freshmen Marshall Summa and Clay Mayes finished 20th and 21st, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run. Summa finished with a time of 15:16.08 and Mayes finished with a time of 15:20.44.
Oklahoma State will be back in action next weekend as they will travel to Norman, Okla., for the Sooner Invitational.
