Cowgirl Golf Advances At Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship

Oklahoma State's women's golf team won its first match on Sunday at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship to advance at the Ginn Reunion Resort.
The ninth-seeded Cowgirls knocked off No. 8 seed Denver, 3-2, before seeing their second-round tilt with Duke suspended due to darkness. The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning and the third round is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Against the Pioneers, the Cowgirls got a win at the No. 1 position as junior Pernilla Lindberg earned a 2-and-1 victory over Katie Kempter after leading for 16 of the match's 17 holes.
Junior Karin Kinnerud needed just 13 holes on her way to a 7-and-5 win over Stephanie Sherlock. Kinnerud won two of the first three holes and the last five holes on her way to victory.
Junior Amanda Johnson never trailed in her match as well, posting a 5-and-3 win over Chelsea Benton.
Denver claimed its two points as Dawn Shockley won, 4 and 3, against senior Tammy Clelland, while Ellie Givens slipped past sophomore Sarah Bradley, 2 and 1.
