Cowgirls Topple Tennessee-Martin in Season Opener

The Cowgirls (1-0) were victorious in all four disciplines. The team compiled four wins in reining (western) and equitation on the flat (hunter seat), on their way to the team's first victory of the season. A 7-3 record was held by both the hunter seat team and the western team. The Cowgirls also swept all four MVP awards in today's event.
“Our girls rode very well today,” said Head Coach Larry Sanchez. “We still have a lot to improve on by the end of the season.”
OSU was led by the sophomore class who picked up three of the teams four MVP awards. Sophomores Suzanne Randolph and Rachell Shobe picked up their first career MVP.
The hunter seat team compiled seven victories on the day. Along with Blais, Jaclyn Osterstock and Natalie Chappel captured victories for the cowgirls in the equitation over fences. Sarah Summers, Michelle Woolschlager, and Charlotte Collingsworth captured victories in equitation on the flat along with Mahoney.
The western team only lost three on the day. For the horsemanship category LeeAnna McNally and Sam Davidson won along with
Coach Sanchez only had good things to say about Tennessee-Martin.
“I want to hand it to UT-Martin. They were very strong for a young program,” said Sanchez. “They were very competitive.”
The Cowgirls will compete again this Saturday, Oct. 13 against Baylor.
