Cowgirl Softball Falls in Fayetteville
October 07, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cowgirls lost their first game to Missouri State, 7-1, due mostly to three errors in the game which led to four unearned runs. OSU scored in the top of the first when freshman Mariah Gearhart scored on a base hit by fellow freshman Alysia Hamilton. However, the Bears scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead. MSU scored three more in the third thanks to back-to-back home runs and scored an unearned run in the sixth for the final tally.
In the second game for the Cowgirls, freshman Sarah Odom started in the circle for OSU and gave up just one run on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks. However, the lone offensive output by Oklahoma State was a base hit by Gearhart in the sixth. Arkansas' Bachkora scored on a wild pitch from third as the Lady'Backs defeated the Cowgirls, 1-0.
Against Rogers State in their final game of the fall season, Oklahoma State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Ashley Boyd followed Katelyn Bright's triple with a home run. The Hillcats tied the game in the top of the second on the first of two homers by RSU's Walkup. The Hillcat hit a solo shot in the fifth to give Rogers State a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, OSU tied the game when pinch runner Breana Casaus scored on a base hit by Crabtree. Dunagan scored the winning run in the top of the seventh when Clark was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Four different Cowgirls finished the fall season with a .400 batting average or better. Kati Phillips led the team with a .440 average, while freshman Ashley Boyd ended her first fall season with OSU with a .435 mark. Freshman Alysia Hamilton and sophomore Emily Blackburn both carded .400 averages.
Oklahoma State will return to action on Feb. 8, when the Cowgirls travel to Texarkana, Texas, to compete in the season-opening Century Bank Classic.
