October 03, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
OSU's offense scored early and often. The Cowgirls scored three runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run single by Jessica Meza. Sam Heinlein followed that with an RBI single of her own to put OSU ahead, 3-0.
The Cowgirls put together three-consecutive hits in the fifth inning and scored four more in the inning. Katelyn Bright led off with a walk, senior Kim Kaye hit a triple, scoring Bright, Kati Phillips followed that with a double, and singles by Meza and Emily Blackburn scored two more runs.
Four more runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth gave Oklahoma State a 13-0 lead heading into the 10th inning.
Cowgirl freshman Amanda Crabtree took to the pitching circle in the top of the ninth and got six-consecutive outs, including four strikeouts. Without batting in the bottom of the 10th, OSU allowed Connors State to stay at the plate. A two-run double by CSC's shortstop Amanda Tanner broke up the shutout for the Cowgirl pitching staff.
Junior outfielder Kati Phillips went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. In the pitching circle, Anna Whiddon had nine strikeouts and just one walk in four innings, while Crabtree had seven Ks in three innings. Including starter Sarah Odom's two strikeouts, the Cowgirl pitching staff combined for 18 strikeouts and just one walk.
Oklahoma State will conclude the home portion of its home schedule on Thursday as the Cowgirls host Northern Oklahoma in a 12-inning game starting at 5 p.m.
