Cowgirl Equestrian Hosts Defending National Champion South Carolina
October 26, 2007 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Oklahoma State's Equestrian team (2-0) will host the defending national champion South Carolina (1-1) Gamecocks at 10:00 a.m. at the Animal Science Arena. If weather cooperates the English team will compete inside and the Western team will show outside.
The Cowgirls will have five representatives in each of the four disciplines: equitation over fences, equitation on the flat, horsemanship, and reining.
OSU will continue with the Varsity format. There will be a series of head-to-head matches and whichever teams wins the most will win the overall show. In each discipline the rider with the most points will win the MVP.
The Cowgirls showing in equitation over fences include seniors Natalie Chappell and Bailey Mahoney, junior Devon Smithburg, and sophomores Ally Blais and Jaclyn Osterstock. All of these girls have been very successful this year, including Ally Blais who has already earned one MVP this season.
Riding for equitation on the flat will be seniors Bailey Mahoney and Michelle Woolschalager and juniors Charlotte Collingsworth, Sam Collingsworth, and Sarah Summers. Four of these veteran riders have earned at least one victory in the first two shows. Mahoney has already earned her first MVP of the season.
The five riders that are representing the Cowgirls in horsemanship are seniors Sam Davidson and LeeAnna McNally, junior Jordan Pickelman, and sophomores Ashley Koch and Suzanne Randolph. Davidson and Randolph have been undefeated this season in both previous shows. Both Randolph and Pickelman have earned MVP's this season.
The Cowgirl reining riders include senior Rachel Currat, junior Jacque Roberts, and sophomores Leah Kuehn, Rachell Shobe, and Molly Topton. Currat, Roberts, Kuehn, and Shobe all have a perfect record after two events this season. Shobe also holds both MVP titles for this season.
