Cowgirl Equestrian Set To Begin 2007-08 Campaign
October 02, 2007 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Oklahoma State's equestrian team will open its 2007-2008 season Saturday at 10 a.m. against Tennessee-Martin at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls will be represented by 20 riders in four categories, including horsemanship, reining, equitation over fences, and equitation on the flat.
Saturday's format will feature a series of head-to-head matchups. The team accumulating the most head-to-head victories will win the overall match. In the event of a tie, the victor will be determined by total points. In addition, there will be an individual award for the most valuable player in each discipline.
OSU's five riders in the horsemanship category will be seniors Sam Davidson and LeeAnna McNally, junior Jordan Pickelman, sophomores Ashley Koch and Suzanne Randolph. Davidson, Pickelman, and Koch all competed in the Varsity National Tournament in 2007 and Davidson and Pickelman are two of the three remaining members from the 2006 National Championship team.
Senior Rachel Currat, junior Jacqueline Roberts, and sophomores Leah Kuehn, Rachell Shobe, and Molly Tipton will represent the Cowgirls in the reining discipline. Roberts participated on the National Championship squad in 2006, while Currat, Roberts, and Shobe all represented OSU at the Varsity National Championship last year.
For the English team seniors Natalie Chappel and Bailey Mahoney, sophomores Ally Blais and Jaclyn Osterstock and freshman Hannah Beresford will compete in the equitation over fences class. Mahoney has been one of Cowgirls top riders in the last two years, representing the Cowgirls in both fences and flat at the Varsity National Tournament. Hannah Beresford is one of the many talented members of the squad's freshman class.
Riding in equitation on the flat for the Cowgirls will be seniors Bailey Mahoney and Michelle Woolschlager and juniors Charlotte Collingsworth, Sam Collingsworth, and Sarah Summers. Woolschlager has represented the Cowgirls in the Varsity National Tournament.
Oklahoma State's newly formed Orange Rewards program will be in effect on Saturday as well. Fans can earn a rewards stamp at the meet from 9:30 -11 a.m.
