Problems Mount for Cowgirls in Windy Conditions
October 18, 2007 | Cowgirl Tennis
A pair of Cowgirl netters stumbled to disappointing losses at the ITA Central Region Qualifier on Wednesday.
Bettina Gabbe and Maryna Tkachenko each suffered losses in the qualifying round on a morning when windy conditions swept through Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Gabbe, a junior from Cologne, Germany, fell to Kaitlin Ritchie of Missouri (7-6, 5-7, 12-10). Tkachenko, a native of Kiev, Ukraine, was defeated by Tulsa's Jie Zeng (2-6, 6-4, 10-8).
“It was a frustrating day for us,” said Cowgirl head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “Our girls did not play very well and the conditions definitely acted as an equalizer in both matches.”
Other Cowgirl players will be in action in the main draw tomorrow. That schedule will be released later tonight.
“Our girls worked hard towards this tournament, so hopefully we can come out and play well tomorrow.”
