Cowboy Cross Country finishes 12th at NCAA Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (OSU Athletics ) Oklahoma State men's cross country team finished 12th at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday at the La Vern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Despite resting their top runner Ryan Vail, the sixth-ranked Cowboys still managed a solid showing in their final event before the Big 12 Championships.
Matt Barnes-Smith and Daniel Watts led the way for the Cowboys, finishing 34th and 35th, respectively. Barnes-Smith finished with a time of 23:55, with Watts finishing a single second behind at 23:56. David Jankowski (24:14), Sean Fleming (24:21), and Brian Ehlis (24:31) rounded out the scoring for the Cowboys.
"Having Vail out made a big difference in the scoring for us, but we still saw a lot of improvement from the guys that did run,"said head coach Dave Smith.
Smith said that both Watts and Fleming improved on their times from the Cowboy Jamboree two weeks ago, and with two weeks to prepare for the Big 12 Championship, his squad is heading in the right direction.
The Cowboys will return to action on October 26 when they travel to Lubbock, Texas for the Big 12 Championships.
