Cowgirl Softball Picks up Three More Wins
October 01, 2007 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning against the Trojans on a two-run double by freshman Sarah Boyd. Transfer Jessica Meza added a run with a double of her own and Kati Phillips plated the fourth run with a base hit.
A solo home run by Meza to lead off the third gave the Cowgirls a five-run lead before Seminole State scored in the top of the fourth. Trailing 7-1 in the sixth, the Trojans cut the lead to three in the sixth, but OSU equaled that total in the bottom of the inning for an 11-4 win.
Against Rogers State, freshman Amanda Crabtree threw a one-hitter while striking out seven Hillcats to pick up the run-rule victory. The offense, meanwhile, scored early and often. OSU scored three runs on four hits in the second inning, including three-consecutive singles by Meza, Phillips and Breana Casaus.
The Cowgirls scored six runs in the fourth inning, including a three-run shot by leadoff hitter Mariah Gearhart. A two-run double by freshman catcher Sarah Boyd, who then scored on a base hit by Crabtree, completed the scoring.
In the final game of the evening, freshman pitcher Sarah Odom scattered three hits and struck out six in four innings of work as the Cowgirls run-ruled Neosho County, 12-0. Sophomore Emily Blackburn went 3-for-4 with six runs batted in against the Lady Panthers.
In other games of the tournament, Rogers State defeated Seminole State in the first game of the day, 9-7, and RSU defeated Neosho County 11-4 in game two. Seminole defeated Neosho 3-2.
Oklahoma State will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 2, as the Cowgirls host Connors State at 5 p.m. in a 12-inning contest.
