Equestrian Set for Big Weekend in the South
January 30, 2007 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Oklahoma State's equestrian team is set to compete this weekend against the University of South Carolina and the University of Auburn in Blythewood, S.C.
Last year at the Varsity Equestrian National Championship in Albuquerque, N,M., USC captured the championship title in hunt seat and Auburn came in second. On the flip side, OSU captured the championship title in western while Auburn finished second yet again. Overall Auburn was the championship team and OSU came in second for the overall team standings.
Five Cowgirls in each of the four classes will be fighting to improve this year's record to 8-2. The Cowgirls have started 2007 out strong with a significant win over Miami of Ohio last weekend in Stillwater.
Representing the Cowgirls in reining will be seniors Rachel Currat and Katie Bohr, sophomore Jacque Roberts, freshmen Molly Tipton (Saturday) and Leah Kuehn (Sunday). This seasoned group brings a lot of experience and talent to the weekend. Currat, Bohr and Roberts have all competed at the national level for OSU.
Adding only one newbie to this group, freshman Ashley Koch, the remaining four were the girls responsible for brining home a national championship title to the western team in 2006. Leading the Cowgirls are senior Brandi Thomas, followed by juniors Samantha Davidson and LeAnna McNally and finally sophomore Jordan Pickelman.
Leading the English side this weekend will be a strong, talented and young group. Riding fences for the Cowgirls will be senior Paige Hortman, juniors Natalie Chappell and Bailey Mahoney, sophomore Jaclyn Osterstock and freshman Ally Blais. All these riders have proven to be tough competitors putting many points on the board for the Cowgirls.
Riding equitation on the flat for OSU will be juniors Michelle Woolschlager and Mahoney, sophomores Samantha Collingsworth and Charlotte Collinsworth and Blais. Hortman, Mahoney, Woolschlager and S. Collingsworth all have national collegiate experience. They all rode at the VENC in 2006 and help secure the overall team title of reserve national champion.
This weekend's events are scheduled to kick off at 9:00 a.m. at the One Wood Farm in Blythewood, S.C.
