Cowboys Compete at Razorback Invitational

Oklahoma State's men's track team gave a strong performance at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday.
Several Cowboy newcomers saw action, including redshirt freshman Marshall Summa, who set a personal record in the 3,000-meter run. The Midwest City, Okla., native finished eighth with a time of 8:51.02.
Also in the 3,000-meter run, Peter Doroshuk finished second to lead all Cowboys. The redshirt freshman finished with a time of 8:34.41. Four other Cowboy freshmen also ran in the event. Clay Mayes finished 10th with a time of 8:58.64, Tucker Weems finished 11th with a time of 9:01.53, Ben Histand finished 13th with a time of 9:04.28 and Peter Wood finished 14th with a time of 9:10.64.
In the one-mile run, it was sophomore Alejandro Ruiz who came up big for the Pokes. Ruiz finished fifth with a time of 4:16.78 in the event. Sophomore Ryan Vail finished ninth with a time of 4:19.71. True freshman Jerhoemee Murray finished 11th with a time of 4:22.35. Ryan Birkholz finished 12th with a time of 4:22.82 and junior Brian Ehlis finished 14th with a time of 4:26.77.
Ryan Ripley had another strong showing in the 800-meter run. The Ocala, Fla., native finished third with a time of 1:56.13. Two other Cowboys, freshman Sean Fleming and sophomore Matt Barnes-Smith, finished in the top 10. Fleming finished fifth with a time of 1:56.95 and Barnes-Smith finished ninth with a time of 1:57.59. Junior David Foster finished with a time of 2:06.46 in the event.
In the 400-meter dash, Cowboy senior Terry Josserand finished second in his heat with a time of 48.73. Aaron Rivera finished with a time of 51.92.
“Overall, it was a good meet for us,” said Cowboy head track coach Dick Weis. “Everyone ran well and we got some of our young guys in. We aren't trying to go full speed at this point, we mainly just want to go and get some solid workouts in.”
The Pokes will be back in action in two weeks at the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman, Okla. The meet will be hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
